Tasting notes
Excellent dark red. Very expressive, open-knit aromas of raspberry, plum, smoked meat, leather and truffley underbrush, plus suggestions of prune and crystallized fruits. Plush and round in the mouth; seems as evolved as the nose but boasts inviting decadent sweetness. The serious tannins show a slight dry edge. Etienne Grivot, who finds a bit of finishing bitterness, told me that this wine was a bit more roughly handled when it was de-cuved; today he uses a new device. This is ready to go but should continue to give pleasure for several years based on its ripeness and full tannins.

Dee p red with ruby highlights. Knockout nose combines superripe berries, plum, violet, minerals, nutty oak and suggestions of earth. Sweet and dense but with terrific verve and definition. Chewy and solid yet light on its feet. Offers impressive palate coverage and grip. Finishes very long, with fine, suave tannins.
Spicy, floral and wonderfully pure black fruit aromas that give way to flavors that are sweet, delicious and remarkably supple, indeed even more so than the Clos de Vougeot yet the finish is very firmly structured and there is excellent mid-palate punch and sap. This is an absolutely gorgeous wine of real depth and striking style. Wow!
From a parcel in the “Cruots” sector of its vineyard, the 2002 Echezeaux bursts forth with toasty blackberry and cassis aromas. Its awesomely-textured character reveals sensual, oily layers of red cherries, candied raspberries, and spices that linger in its sultry, seductive, and prolonged finish. Drink this concentrated beauty between 2007 and 2018. Importer: Diageo Chateau and Estate Wines Company, New York, NY; tel. (212) 419-1400
