This has a very spicy edge to it. A little closed on the nose but there is a compact tightness here that is testimony to the quality of both vines and vineyard. The red cherry fruit is sweet and bright. This is an elegant Echezeaux rather than a bruiser. FINE+RARE

The 2011 Echézeaux is striking. Totally alive and expressive, the 2011 opens with crushed flowers and sweet red berries, but it is the wine's energy that takes over on the mid-palate and finish. The flavors are vibrant in a pulsating Burgundy with a very bright future. Bright floral and saline notes punctuate the invigorating finish.

Medium red. Vibrant aromas of red cherry, cranberry, pomegranate, spices and nutty oak. Broad and savory on the palate; in a dry style but shows good weight and texture to its flavors of tart red berries and spices. Nicely filled in, yet at the same time taut and penetrating. Finishes with ripe tannins, sneaky subtle sweetness and a lovely light touch.

Medium red. Distinctly cool aromas of medicinal red fruits and peppery herbs. More saline than fruity on the palate, in a rather tightly wrapped style. This went through its malolactic fermentation earlier than the Clos Vougeot and seems more backward today--not to mention less sweet than usual at this stage of its evolution.
