This wine is superb. The Echezeaux has a haunting and heady bouquet of violets, crushed berry fruit, and new oak. It is extremely elegant, supple, rich, and concentrated. This wine is enticing to drink now and should be even better over the next two to four years. The 1985s from this famous firm are all impeccably clean, correct, well-made wines. Drouhin has managed to preserve the individual identity of each appellation as the wines do not taste alike. There is, of course, a house style, but that can be said of the wines from a small grower as well.
About the producer

Joseph Drouhin is one of the largest and most famous producers in Burgundy, making both domaine and négociant wines. It remains family-owned and run, now in the hands of the fourth generation.
