Tasting notes
It took ten months for Clair's 1999 Corton-Charlemagne to complete its alcoholic fermentation. Its nose reveals huge ripeness, with sweet apricot aromas intermingled with toasted oak. Medium to full-bodied, ample, and rich, it is packed with cookie dough, buttery white fruits, spices, and subtle hints of anise. This outstanding wine shows the austerity common in many wines from this vineyard in 1999, yet it regales the taster with its exquisite ripeness and depth. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2009. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel. (205) 980-8802.

Extremely fresh, soil-inflected nose combines papaya, pineapple, lime blossom and menthol. Superrich and multifaceted, with strong flavors of apple, minerals, mint and flowers. Uncompromisingly dry but very deep. Finishes extremely long and subtle. Offers great potential.
