Produced from vines harvested at 15% natural potential alcohol, the 2003 Gevrey-Chambertin Au Velle boasts a nose of intensely aromatic candied blackberries. (15% alcohol) Bright ruby-red. Subdued aromas of blackberry and tarry oak. Fat, ripe and chocolatey, with more volume than the Deree but less sap and precision. Big, warm, plump and liqueur-like, with noticeable alcohol. Here's a 2003 in the '47 style! Finishes with huge but thoroughly ripe tannins. This will be accessible young but appears to have the sheer material for mid-term aging.

This estate, today with Arnaud Mortet at the helm, makes some of Gevrey-Chambertin’s finest wines. Working with 16 hectares, as well as a few négociant parcels, this property makes perfumed and chiselled Pinot Noir.
