Score 88-90/100 · Drink 2004-2010, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2003

The saturated dark-colored 2001 Gevrey-Chambertin En Motrot sports a superb nose of plummy blackberries and cassis. Broad, armed with wonderful palate presence, it coats the mouth with copious quantities of intensely flavored baked black fruits and firm tannin. Highly structured in the finish, yet dense, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and immensely fruity, this is a bold, assertive wine. Projected maturity: 2004-2010. Bright ruby-red. Complex, subtle aromas of plum, smoke and meat. Sweet, silky and rather delicate; softer than the basic village wine but longer on the aftertaste. Tannins are sweet and fine. Very Gevrey, and showing well today.
