Tasting notes
The 2002 Brut Millésimé is drinking brilliantly, bursting with aromas of pear, yellow orchard fruit, citrus oil, peach, smoke and toasted bread. Medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, it's elegantly textural and broad-shouldered, with lovely depth and a sapid finish. Along with the 2008, this is my favorite vintage of the decade chez Laurent-Perrier, and it's drinking very well today.

50 % Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir. RS 8 g/l. Tasted blind. Deeper gold than most. Quite broad and even oaky – sort of Bollinger style. Quite evolved aromatically with a hint of cheesiness. Bone dry on the end. Seems as though it is just losing a bit of fruit in the middle. Falls off very slightly on the end, but compared with the others there is good energy and I ended up upgrading it from 16.5. Very slightly bitter finish. (JR)
(43PY1067440): Light yellow-gold. Candied citrus fruits, pear and chamomile on the smoke-accented nose. Fresh, assertive and penetrating, offering juicy orchard and citrus fruit flavors and a deeper pit fruit nuance. Finishes sappy and long, with strong mineral cut and lingering lees and mineral nuances.
The 2002 Brut Millesime shows good up-front richness in its dried apricots, dried pears, flowers and spices. This is a relatively supple, easygoing 2002 best suited to near-term drinking. This is lot # L43PX103290Q.
