The medium-to-dark ruby-colored 1997 Clos de la Roche displays complex blackberry, fresh herb, spice, stone, and jammy strawberry scents. It is magnificently defined yet decadently fashioned, with luxurious layers of cassis, leather, asphalt, blackberries, and violets that coat the palate. Broad, focused, and delineated, it is also highly concentrated and muscular. Projected maturity: 2007-2014.

Ruby-red. Wild, liqueur-like aromas of raspberry, wild plum, chocolate, leather, mocha, smoke, herbs and minerals; complex and precise. Great intensity and volume in the mouth; thick, sweet and powerfully structured. A huge wine that's not currently as delineated in the middle as it is on the nose. A wave of fruit rolls over its suave tannins. Very long, slow building finish. Quintessential Clos de la Roche.
