Score 93/100 · Pierre Rovani, Aug 2001
The dark ruby-colored, smoked bacon and spice-scented 1999 Clos de La Roche is a sexy, medium to full-bodied wine. Loads of spices, candied cherries, stones, juniper berries, and plums can be found in its deep, satin-textured character. It is exceptionally long and possesses loads of prodigiously ripened tannin. Importer: David Hinkle / Peter Vezan, North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; tel. (800) 266-6585.

Bright ruby. Vibrant aromas of black fruits, mocha and exotic spices. Sweet, penetrating and deep, with terrific flavor intensity and a powerful structure. A wine of grand cru volume and thrust, but distinctly more muscular than the 2000, which, unlike this '99, contained no press wine.
