2004 Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques V V

Deep red. Knockout nose showcases all the Gevrey food groups: dark raspberry, minerals, flowers, underbrush and smoked meat. Then sweet, spicy and quite brisk, with distinctly high-toned flavors and a flamboyantly expressive personality. This has superb inner-mouth aromatic character and an almost confectionery sweetness, not to mention excellent persistence. This wine did not get a pre-fermentation cold soak, and it has received next to no sulfur dioxide to this point. A naif, says Laurent, but I wasn't certain if he was referring to the vigneron who was responsible for the vinification or to the wine itself.
