The 2001 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a fragrant bouquet with open-knit red fruit, cedar, forest pine and light tangerine scents. It is prettier and more vigorous than the 2001 Chapelle-Chambertin tasted alongside. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, nimble and fresh, light on its toes with red berries, Vervain tea, sage and white pepper. I like this Latricières and the neat integrated of the oak that carries it along. Classy. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2000 and 2001 horizontal tasting.

The 2001 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru from Rossignol-Trapet is getting a bit long in the tooth, offering up notes of cola, chocolate and incipient oxidation. On the palate, the wine is evolved and degraded, its cohesion cracking on the finish. If this bottle is representative, drink up.

Pale ruby. Light nose with a suggestion of leaf mulch. Rather lacy texture and really very suave structure with the tannins well trumped by seriously interesting fruit. One of the most persistent wines in this line-up of 2001 burgundies. Very complete and fine. Rewarding and really rather beautiful. (JR)

Quite pale. Correct, taut, quite vibrant. Finely etched. Needs a long time, and will always be pure rather than flattering. Finesse. (cask sample) (JR)
