The 2009 Latricières-Chambertin is quite a bit fresher and at times more ethereal than the Chambertin. I especially like the energy, focus and nuance of the Latricières, all typical of this cool site. Floral and spice notes add further lift and vibrancy as the wine opens up in the glass. In 2009 I have a slight preference for the Latricières over the Chambertin, but both wines are striking.

(from purchased fruit and wine): Good medium red. Musky aromas of redcurrant, crushed rock and caramel lifted by a floral topnote. Sappy, dense and fine-grained, with strong saline and crushed-rock minerality giving the middle palate surprising energy and focus. The stony character follows through on the chewy, long finish. This boasts very good tension for the year. An excellent showing. "The '09s are commercial, sexy and easy to understand," noted David Croix. "They may never shut down."
