Tasting notes
There is still a reduction on the nose of the 2012 Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese, but also a great purity and freshness in the characteristic mango and passion-fruit aromas, which open to a lush and sensual palate of elegance and finesse. But the long and salty finish recommends laying down this excellent Spätlese for 10-15 years.

Cask sample. Very shy on the nose, ever so slightly smoky, has not shaken of the shackles of spontaneous fermentation aromas yet. The palate is much more revealing, and its juicy expression of ripe yellow fruit is admirably partnered by an intriguing spicy note that reminds me of the famous Nürnberger Lebkuchen (Nürnberg ginger biscuits). Almost tactile on the finish, with a flinty expression of minerality. (MS)
