Score 76/100 · Drink 2019, Neal Martin, Apr 2019

The 1979 Rauzan-Ségla, harvested from 3 to 14 October, has a wide degraded tawny rim. The nose is light and quite diffuse, fennel tinged bouquet that is fully mature and is obviously not going to improve with further ageing. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin, simple and dry, almost hollow towards the enervated finish. This was not a good period for the Margaux Second Growth and any bottles should be drunk up. Tasted at the Rauzan-Ségla vertical at the château.

Quite light, round and fruity, the 1979 Rauzan-Segla resembles a simple Bordeaux Superieur. Drink up. Anticipated maturity: Now-probably in serious decline. Last tasted, 4/84.
