Tasting notes
The 2002 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Chaignots, bottled a week before my visit, bursts with violets and blackberries. Medium-bodied, sporting outstanding depth of fruit, it is a concentrated wine crammed with black cherries and blackberries. Its tannin is exceedingly ripe, sweet, and supple. Drink it over the next 8-9 years. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel. (205) 980-8802

Medium red. Darker aromas of blackberry, black raspberry and violet. Sweet, fruit-driven and fresh, with primary, slightly medicinal flavors of cassis, licorice and menthol. This has a bit more sweetness and density to support its solid tannins. Distinctly longer than the village wine. A Vosne-side cru with Nuits-style tannins.
