Tasting notes
Displaying a nose of blackberries drenched in chocolate syrup, the 2003 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains is a brooding, masculine wine. Loads of black cherries as well as copious quantities of solid yet ripe tannin can be found in its medium-bodied character. Expressive and powerful, it also possesses a long, flavorful finish. Projected maturity: 2008-2015. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel. (510) 524-1524

Full ruby-red. Superripe, high-toned aromas of raspberry, chocolate and roasted herbs; shows good minerality but also a faint porty quality. Then dense, powerful and a bit youthfully aggressive, with a chocolatey flavor and obviously high alcohol currently dominating. Comes across as a bit dry in the context of the vineyard and finishes with slightly tough tannins. Chevillon advises collectors to wait seven to ten years for his Cailles, Saint-Georges and Vaucrains.
