Medium bright ruby. Medicinal black cherry and a whiff of menthol on the nose. Less floral and more gamey than the old-vines Champs-Chenys, conveying a cooler, less-ripe impression. Finishes with dusty, slightly dry-edged tannins. In a rather austere style-or is there simply less material to support the tannins?

Medium red. Tight, somewhat reduced aromas of blackberry and leather. Then nicely ripe in the mouth, with black cherry and dark berry flavors complicated but not overwhelmed by an herbal nuance. Finishes firmly tannic but not dry.
