Score 93/100 · Drink 2010-2027, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Dec 2010

The 2007 Almaviva continues a series of successful vintages for this Chilean icon. Medium purple-colored, it exhibits an expressive bouquet of wood smoke, pencil lead, Asian spices, incense, blackcurrant, and blackberry. Elegantly styled and impeccably balanced, it will evolve for several more years and drink well through 2027 at the least. Importer: Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines, Napa, CA; Tel: (707) 299-2600

The 2007 Blend Almaviva contains 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Carménère, 7% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot from the Maipo Valley. This opens with ripe black fruit, camphor and a hint of jam, joined by black olives and lifted green notes. Juicy and smoky on the palate, the wood component adds a slightly drying edge. This is a mature style for a cool vintage, where the barrel tannins now dominate the structure.
