From Pirque. 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Carménère, 2% Cabernet Franc. 18 months in 50% new French oak. Really extravagant aromatic intensity: mint, blackcurrant, herbs, tobacco, spice. The fruit has a slight confected note, but not unpleasantly so. Tender on the palate – really supple tannin (in fact a bit more grip wouldn't go amiss). Lovely cocoa character. Expertly made, very typical new world Cabernet Sauvignon that could easily compete with Napa, and without the burning alcohol that can plague this style. (RH)

(includes bits of petit verdot, carmenere and cabernet franc): Deep ruby. Smoky, peppery dark berry preserves and cherry-cola on the pungent nose. Sweet, expansive black and blue fruit flavors are complemented by notes of bitter chocolate and fruitcake, with zesty acidity adding lift. Rich and fleshy but nervy too, finishing with gentle tannic grip, excellent persistence and lingering smokiness.
