Good full, deep red. Roasted black fruits, licorice, game, chocolate and coffee on the highly complex nose. Ripe yet dry, with superb richness and depth but also plenty of acidity. In fact, this is quite tight and closed in for a young 2003. Youthfully medicinal and not especially sweet. Finishes long and subtle, with substantial tannic structure.

(from vines planted in 1919) Good medium-deep red-ruby. Liqueur-like blackberry and spice aromas. Lush and thick, but with good inner-mouth energy. Here the dark fruit flavors are enlivened by a mineral firmness. This has a more propulsive finish than most of these 2003s. The deep roots here go under the rocks in search of moisture, notes Fourrier. Highly promising.
