Tasting notes
Good ruby-red. Wild, sappy aromas of red fruits macerated in alcohol, brown spices, game and underbrush, along with a whiff of raisin. Silky-smooth, broad and lush but not especially complex today. Finishes with big, horizontal tannins and a slight dryness. This wine, from fruit harvested very late in 2003, was quite awkward at the start and has steadily improved, says Devillard.

Prieur’s 0.8-hectare (2-acre) holding in Chambertin produced a meager 75 cases of wine in 2003. A medium to full-bodied wine, it displays a nose of waxy black fruits. Harmonious, fresh, and expressive, this toast and black cherry-laced offering displays outstanding depth, ripeness, and length. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016.
