Tasting notes
Deep red-ruby. Closed but pure nose offers scents of black raspberry, exotic spices, dried flowers, licorice and game. Dense, sweet and powerful but also in a somewhat cool style for the year. Not yet showing the mid-palate detail of the Bonnes-Mares but quite fresh and sappy today. The tannic but smooth finish mounts slowly and lingers impressively.

The 2009 Chambertin-Clos de Beze is a dazzling, sensual Burgundy. An exciting melange of dark fruit, licorice, earthiness and incense emerges from the glass. The wine builds with notable powerful intensity towards the rich, sweeping, eternal finish. This enveloping, totally convincing Beze needs time, and lots of it. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. This is a beautiful set of wines from Groffier. The estate farms eight hectares of vineyards, all of which it owns. The fruit receives a cold soak prior to fermentation that accounts for much of the trademark perfume these wines show. The 2009s were bottled between mid-December, 2010 and mid-January 2011. Various US importers, including: Atherton Imports, Menlo Park, CA; tel. (650) 328-6639 and a Peter Vezan Selection, Paris, peter.vezan@wanadoo.fr
