Light, floral nose with even a slightly vegetal edge. This is one of the most open and light of the wines. There's a lack of tension and concentration. It's still quite astringent and the finish is quite jagged, unformed. It may all fall into place, though I'm not sure it'll ever have the majesty of the best wines below. (JR)

Spices, anise, red berries, and pears are found in the nose of the 1999 Montrachet. This medium-bodied wine has outstanding breadth, concentration, and length, Toasted oak, spices, candied apples, and hints of minerals can be discerned in its satin-textured personality. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2009. Maison Louis Latour is represented by a different importer in each state.
About the producer
The Latour family has been growing vines in Burgundy since at least 1731. Their négociant business – today one of the region’s biggest names – was founded in 1797. Still family-owned today, the company owns 48 hectares of vines, 27 of which are Grand Cru, as well as its own cooperage.
