The 2009 Marsannay Les Longeroies opens beautifully on the palate with hints of dark red fruit, violets and spices. It shows wonderful precision, with crisp, well-delineated aromatics and chiseled fruit. It is a jewel of a wine. Damoy works with purchased grapes for this cuvée.

The 2009 Marsannay Les Longeroies opens beautifully on the palate with hints of dark red fruit, violets and spices. It shows wonderful precision, with crisp, well-delineated aromatics and chiseled fruit. It is a jewel of a wine. Damoy works with purchased grapes for this cuvee. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. This range of wines from Pierre Damoy was among the most thrilling I tasted. Damoy farms a total of 10.5 hectares, including a mind-boggling 5.36 hectares in Clos de Beze, from which he also sells fruit to other houses. The family’s holdings have remained essentially unchanged since Damoy’s great-great-grandfather purchased the estate in 1910. Many of the vineyards date back to the early 1900s. Readers will find notes on the estate’s 2008s on www.erobertparker.com. Damoy began harvesting on September 9. With one exception (the Chambertin-Clos de Beze La Cabane), the fruit was 100% destemmed. Cuvaison lasted 3-4 weeks and Damoy employed a fair amount of new oak; 70% for the Chapelle, 80% for the Chambertin and Beze and 100% for La Cabanne. I tasted all of the wines from tank, where they were awaiting bottling, scheduled for March 2011. Damoy did not plan to fine or filter the wines prior to bottling, in keeping with his standard practice. Importer: Peter Weygandt, Unionville, PA; tel. (610) 486-0800
