Tasting notes
Tasted blind at Flint Wines’ 2007/2012 Nuits Saint-Georges tasting in London. The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos des Thorey from Domaine de la Vougeraie has quite a high-toned bouquet with some noticeable nail varnish scents coming through. The palate is sweet and this bottle felt a little over-extracted. Moderate acidity, some pleasant sweet cassis and crushed strawberry notes, but it feels a little anonymous towards the finish. Previous bottles have showed better. Tasted November 2016.

Impressive out of barrel, the 2012 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Clos des Thorey is beginning to fulfill its potential in bottle. It has a conservative but detailed, forest floor and granite-scented bouquet that opens nicely in the glass, but never fully reveals itself at this early stage. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, tightly wound red berry fruit interlaced with orange rind and sea salt. I suspect this may clam up for a few years so either commit infanticide...or find a cellar.
A relatively high-toned and markedly cool and airy nose of pure red pinot fruit and floral aromas are laced with hints of the sauvage. There is a racy and intense feel to the delineated and notably mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess really fine depth on the linear and solidly persistent finale. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2020+
