One of the highlights in the range, the 2011 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveaux Cuvée Ultra possesses superb balance. Sweet herbs, crushed rose petals, licorice, spices all meld together gracefully in the glass. This is a great example of the Perrot-Minot house style. All the elements fall into place effortlessly in a rich, resonant Chambolle endowed with tons of pure structure. Perrot-Minot used 50% whole clusters here, but they are barely noticeable. The finish simply dazzles.

(vinified with 50% whole clusters): Saturated ruby-red. Superripe, almost liqueur-like aromas of brambly blackberry and raspberry, roast coffee and musky underbrush. Lush, tactile and sweet, conveying a strong impression of tiny grapes and savory extract. Still rather reticent in the middle but very long and scented on the back end, with tannins thoroughly buffered by the wine's solid mid-palate stuffing. Perrot-Minot will bottle just two barrels of this splendid juice in 2011, as the crop level was only 22 hectoliters per hectares.
