Tasting notes
(from a yield of just 20 hectoliters per hectare, according to the American importer) Bright, full ruby. Slightly high-toned aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, licorice and bitter chocolate, lifted by a floral element. Broad, lush and sweet, with layered flavors of black cherry, flowers and licorice. Perhaps not as minerally or aromatic as vintages with less extreme ripeness, but this offers compelling sweetness and depth of texture. Finishes very long and spicy, with tannins more apparent today than those of L'Ermita.

The brilliant 2003 Finca Dofi, a blend of 60% Grenache and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, and Carignan, was aged in 100% new French oak. Fashioned from yields of less than 20 hectoliters per hectare, there are slightly less than 1,800 cases of this effort. It boasts a dense purple color as well as an extraordinary perfume of acacia flowers, crushed rocks, blueberries, black currants, licorice, and subtle wood. Super-expressive, rich, and full-bodied, with wonderfully integrated acidity, tannin, and wood, it should drink beautifully for 10-15 years. Importer: The Rare Wine Co., Sonoma, CA; tel.
