Bright, deep red. Musky, wild aromas and flavors of black raspberry, coffee, gibier, smoky crushed rock and mocha; an essence of Gevrey. Silky-sweet and deep, with terrific spicy, peppery lift contributing to the wine's superb inner-mouth tension. Finishes with a firm spine for aging but the tannins arrive late, allowing the wine's fruit and perfume to dust the mouth and expand on the aftertaste.

The 2010 Charmes-Chambertin is impeccably layered from start to finish. Dark cherries, plums and exotic spices are woven together in a rich fabric of notable class. The Charmes is indescribably elegant and also deceptive today in its openness, but it is a wine built for the cellar. This is going to be a fascinating wine to follow.

Good deep red. Lively scents of cherry and crushed stone. Very pure but tight and taut, with excellent intensity and definition to the flavors of cherry, herbs, pepper and flowers. Not a fleshy style (it's a bit dried by its CO2 today) but this rather masculine Charmes finishes very long and tactile, with a subtle saline element.

Anticipated maturity: 2025-2040. (Not yet released) Claude Dugat’s 2010s are fabulous. The wines have a sense of tension and transparency that serves to balance the richness of the fruit that is the hallmark of the house style. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, New York City; tel.
