Saturated ruby-red. Wonderfully pure aromas of blackberry, minerals and flowers. Lush and silky but less sweet and open than the Petite Chapelle. But the flavors are bright and floral, even a bit youthfully grapey. Builds inexorably on the back half, finishing with substantial, thoroughly ripe tannins. Here's a 2003 that really calls for six to eight years of cellaring.

Boisterous aromas of spices and waxy black cherries galore burst from the glass of the 2003 Charmes-Chambertin. Its fabulously oily texture combined with its power, concentration, and length make this rich, expansive beauty a delight to taste. Myriad spices are intermingled with red and black fruits in its sensual, long character. Anticipated maturity: now-2015. Importer: Weygandt-Metzler, Peter Weygandt, Unionville, PA; tel. (one-third of Dugat's vines are in Mazoyeres) Bright medium ruby. Knockout nose melds black- and blueberry, iron, leather, flowers and chocolatey oak. Wonderfully sweet and lush in the mouth, but with ripe, harmonious acidity and firm minerality leavening the wine's substantial volume. Quite primary for the vintage despite its breadth and lushness of texture. Finishes with very fine tannins and strong chocolatey persistence.
