The 2025 Petrus has an intense nose after several minutes. Black cherries, iodine and violet petals blossom in the glass, quite exuberant and vivacious, leaning more towards the opulent side of Pétrus. The palate is completely different, with peppery red fruit, firm tannins, spicier than recent vintages, insistent grip, but the final third reveals a sense of linearity or verticality. Quite a mercurial Petrus, certainly with a lot of structure that I suspect will come out more after bottling. I tried this from two types of glass, the smaller one focusing the aromatics. Over time, the 2025 reveals an unerring symmetry and persistence. Outstanding.

Deep purple-hued, the 2025 Château Petrus is, as always, 100% Merlot raised in 50% new barriques, and it hits a solid 14.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.6. Harvested between the 4th and 11th of September, it's another wine that tastes like the very essence of the château, with ripe black cherries, red plums, graphite, iron, and violets all shining on the nose. It's incredibly rich and concentrated on the palate, with flawlessly polished yet massive tannins, and somehow manages to stay powerful and balanced while remaining elegant.

The 2025 Petrus is incredibly aromatic and refined right out of the gate. Cool blue-toned fruit, sage, mint and spice caress the palate. I can't remember tasting a young Petrus with this much pure finesse. Silky tannins carry the mid-palate and finish effortlessly. Technical Director Olivier Berrouet made all the right calls. Sublime. That's the good news. The less good news is that yields were just 20 hectoliters per hectare.

A wine of remarkable density and persistence, the 2025 Pétrus shows huge potential, unwinding in the glass with brooding aromas of sweet cherries, berries, violets and spices. Full-bodied, deep and layered, it's elegantly muscular, with prodigious levels of concentration, lively acids, sweet tannins and a long, palate-staining finish. It's a legend in the making that recalls the intensity of flavor of some of the great post-war Pétrus vintages.
