The 2025 Pavillon de Léoville-Poyferré was picked 8 to 23 September and matured for 18 months in second-fill oak barrels. This is one cuvée where the wood still needs time to be fully subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with quite succulent tannins on the entry, fine acidity, sorbet-fresh, with hints of blood orange infusing the mixture of red and black fruit, leading towards a slightly peppery finish. Fine, but it deserves a few months once in bottle.

A ripe, mouthfilling, sexy second wine, the 2025 Pavillon De Léoville Poyferré reveals tons of red, blue, and black fruits intermixed with smoky tobacco and gravelly earth nuances. Based on 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 14% Petit Verdot, and 7% Cabernet Franc, it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with mouth-coating tannins and a great finish. It doesn't have the elegance of the Grand Vin, but it will undeniably put a smile on your face.

A serious second wine with black currant and dark plum character. A medium body, firm tannins and a lightly chewy finish. Lots going on. Well done.

The 2025 Pavillon de Léoville-Poyferré is a powerful, driven wine. It offers very good energy but also presents a certain austerity, perhaps because of the high percentage of Petit Verdot, which was also more productive in the field. Yields were just 20 hectoliters compared to 26 for the appellation, which comes through in the wine's concentration and a feeling of stress or roughness in its contours. Élevage will be especially critical here.
