Tasting notes
The 2025 Fonroque has a crisp, pure and very floral nose, unfurling with black cherries, cassis and violet scents. The oak is assiduously utilised here. The palate is medium-bodied with sorbet-like freshness. It feels a little like a low SO2 wine, as if there were some carbonic maceration on the finish! But it has plenty of energy, is nicely structured and should drink well for 12 to 15 years.

Based on 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Franc that's being raised in a mix of 19% new barriques, 14% once-used barrels, 24% foudre, 23% amphora, and 20% tanks, the 2025 Château Fonroque has beautiful aromatics of complex red and black fruits, truffly earth, spring flowers, and tons of violet nuances. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a fresh, focused mouthfeel, beautiful purity, fine-grained tannins, and a great finish. It checks in at 14% alcohol with a pH of 3.57, and it's a terrific wine from this team that's worth your attention.
The 2025 Fonroque is a very beautiful wine with great promise. There's quite a bit of Cabernet Franc in the blend, which works well in lifting the wine's aromatics while also adding a good bit of freshness. Dark red-toned fruit, new leather, cedar, spice and incense all take shape in a Saint-Émilion of rare distinction and class. A fine effort.
Exhibiting notes of sweet strawberries, cherries and petals, the 2025 Fonroque is medium- to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, with excellent tannin quality and integration. Concluding with a penetrating finish, this blend of 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Franc has the potential to be the best wine yet from this biodynamically farmed 17-hectare estate on the western extreme of Saint-Émilion's limestone plateau.
