The 2025 Clos Badon-Thunevin, six hectares located on sand and gravelly soil between Pavie and Monbousquet, was picked September 11 to 22 and aged entirely in new oak. This has an attractive nose with perfumed black cherries and blueberry fruit, floral in style and well defined. The wood is evident, but polished and simpatico with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine acidity, yes, a little oak, and frankly I think this cuvée would benefit from it being toned down. But overall it feels more cohesive than the 2024, with a silky smooth finish that seems to glide. Afford it three years in bottle.

Beautiful black raspberries, spring flowers, chalky minerality, and graphite all shine in the 2025 Clos Badon Thunevin, a medium-bodied, fresh, focused, yet beautifully concentrated Saint-Emilion. It's balanced on the palate, with ripe tannins and nicely integrated acidity.

The 2025 Clos Badon-Thunevin is quite powerful. Broad swaths of tannin envelop dark-toned fruit, chocolate, new leather, espresso, licorice and dried herbs. This needs softening in élevage, but there is plenty of potential. It's a dark, virile, somber wine today.

70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample. Ripe fruit with a hint of vanilla oak. Generous fruit on the palate. Firm finish. Needs to come together but all the components are there. (JL)
