Tasting notes
The 2010 Alteza is a blend of Malbec from Salta in northern Argentina and La Consulta in Mendoza. They managed the vineyard in Salta and destemmed the grapes at the Colome winery. They put the grapes in a vat in a truck and the fermentation started on the road and finished in Mendoza where it was blended in equal parts. The wine from Salta was very powerful and needed something to bring it into better balance and harmony. It has a very ripe nose with notes of bruised apples, dark plums and spices. The palate is full-bodied and ripe, fresher than the nose suggests. It might improve with time. Drink now-2017. Matervini is a micro-project by Santiago Achaval and Roberto Cipresso, a crazy Malbec blend from the Valles Calchaquies in Salta and La Consulta in Mendoza, completely different from any other wine produced in Argentina.
