Tasting notes
The 2009 Il Borro is a full and generous wine that is drinking very beautifully at this moment. This is a dark and richly extracted wine that offers bold overtures of black cherry, spice, bitter chocolate and some lingering notes of powdered licorice. Together, these aromas are seamless and nicely integrated. The quality of fruit reveals opulent ripeness that makes this wine similar to 2007 in power and character. Yet, there is enough acidic brightness to keep things light. Despite the wine's dark aromatic richness, the mouthfeel is moderate in depth and length.

The 2009 Il Borro is striking. Dark cherries, mocha, spices, new leather and espresso emerge from the nuanced, enticing bouquet. The 2009 possesses striking depth and richness supported by firm tannins that are nearly completely buried by the fruit. Another year or two in bottle should do wonders for the 2009. Il Borro is 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah and 5% Petit Verdot.
