Score 92/100 · Drink 2003-2015, Robert Parker, Aug 1993

The bouquet of the black/ruby/purple-colored 1988 remains tight, but with swirling, one can detect scents of smoky, toasty oak, black plums, allspice, and Asian spices. There are gobs of super-ripe fruit in this extremely concentrated wine. Very structured, with considerable tannin, this massive, full-bodied 1988 will provide a dazzling glass of decadent Pomerol. Anticipated maturity: 1994-2010. Last tasted, 12/92.

The 1988 La Fleur du Gay was picked from the 29th of September. It has a beautifully defined bouquet adorned with pure dark berry, oyster shell, wax resin and undergrowth aromas that are so natural and graceful. The palate is medium-bodied and very natural, with a supple but well-defined entry, very fine tannins and beautiful balance. This is so refined and demonstrates great tension on the shimmering, savory finish. Tasted June 2011. Tasting note taken from the Pomerol book by Neal Martin.
