Score 90/100 · Drink 1987-2005, Robert Parker, Jan 1998
1980 was a great vintage for Raymond-Lafon. A full-intensity bouquet of ripe tropical fruit and spicy oak is followed by an unctuous, powerful, very rich, full-bodied wine, with layers of fruit, refreshingly high, crisp acidity, and a decade of evolution ahead. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005. Last tasted, 3/87.

The 1980 Raymond-Lafon has a clean amber hue. The nose is actually better than one would expect for this vintage, crisp with light tangerine and petrolly scents. The palate has commendable concentration for a 1980 Sauternes. In no way could you describe it as complex, and there is a slight acrid note on the finish. Yet if you have a penchant for Jura, you might well like this.
