Score 94/100 · Drink 1997-2005, Robert Parker, Jan 1997
Chante-Perdrix's 1989 is one of the vintage's most decadently rich and exotic wines. I bought several cases because it was such a super value. The wine still reveals a healthy dark ruby/purple color, followed by a splendidly intense bouquet of dried flowers, jammy black fruits, Asian spices, smoke, and Provencal herbs. Full-bodied and lavishly rich, with a voluptuous texture, layers of fruit that ooze over the palate, this viscous, super concentrated, luscious Chateauneuf du Pape has been delicious since birth. It shows no signs of decline. Given its size it should continue to drink well for another decade. A thrilling glass of Chateauneuf du Pape! Anticipated maturity: now-2005. Last tasted 3/97.
