Score 90/100 · Drink 2026-2046, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

A charmer with its spicy red fruits, chocolaty herbs, and spicy wood-driven aromatics, the 2023 Château Clarke is based on 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon that was aged 16 months in two-thirds new French oak. It's medium-bodied, round, and supple on the palate, with velvety tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and outstanding length. Very much in the ripe, classic style of the vintage, it should continue drinking nicely for another 15-20 years if well stored. Drink 2026-2046.

The 2023 Clarke has a pleasant bouquet with vigorous red berry fruit, undergrowth, tobacco and light blueberry scents that have a spring in their step. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, well-balanced with a silver bead of acidity. Very neatly integrated oak on the finish, this is a classy Clarke.

Chocolate, cherries, vanilla and hazelnuts on the nose of this creamy red. It’s medium-bodied with chalky, lightly dusty tannins. Try in 2027.

Forward, fruity, medium-bodied, with tobacco, and floral accents, the cherry filled, soft-textured wine is already easy-to-drink, with a chocolate edge to the finish. Chateau Clarke is one of the very few wines in the Medoc that is planted to 100% Merlot. Drink from 2026-2037.
