Tasting notes
The organic 2022 Caiarossa is a blend of 32% Cabernet Franc, 26% Syrah, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 7% Sangiovese, 5% Petit Verdot and 1% Grenache, with the best fruit selected from across the estate to express a true synthesis of the Riparbella territory and its still largely untapped potential. Surrounded by Macchia mediterranea, the vineyards impart a slightly wild, authentically Tuscan character that comes through clearly in the wine. Complex and measured in its intensity, this red blend balances depth with restraint, offering nuance rather than excess. Production totals 40,000 bottles.

32% Cabernet Franc, 26% Syrah, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 7% Sangiovese, 5% Petit Verdot, 1% Grenache. Aged for 14 months in French barriques. Certified organic by Ecogruppo Italia. Dark crimson. There is a certain richness of black fruit on the nose while still exuding coolness. Layered, supple red and dark fruit on the palate with juicy acidity and still rather massive powdery tannins. The fruit is long and focused but because of the tannins I would hold off drinking this for another five years or so. (WS)
32% Cabernet Franc, 26% Syrah, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 7% Sangiovese, 5% Petit Verdot, 1% Grenache. Harvest 6–19 September. Aged for approx 14 months in French barriques, 30% new. Organic. Deep lustrous crimson (like most of these!). Ripe and well melded and interestingly attractive on the nose thought there are sandpaper tannins and a little bitterness on the end at present. Underbrush, crushed raspberries, lavender, cedar, mint leaf, sandalwood, warming and inviting, feels very much that you are in Tuscany here with its fragrance and spice, coupled with dark fruits, an excellent vintage of Caiarossa. Owners AJ Domaines, technical director Francesco Villa, cellar master Marco Lipparini.
