The 2020 Nero Ossidiana opens with a whiff of balsam herbs and mint, giving way to crushed black cherries. This is silky-smooth, washing across the palate in textural waves of ripe red and black fruits as violet inner florals form toward the close. It finishes long and lightly structured, leaving a bitter clove and zesty citrus tinge. The Nero Ossidiana is a blend of 90% Corinto Nero and 10% Nero d'Avola.

A blend of 90% Corinto Nero and 10% Nero d'Avola, the Tenuta di Castellaro 2020 Nero Ossidiana shows more depth and a wider span of aromas next to the single-variety Corinto Nero made by the same producer. There is plenty of the sweet cherry fruit, but the wine is also laced with darker leather and spice to further flesh it out. I love the immediate fruit impact of this punchy, fun wine.
