Tasting notes
A blend of 36% Malbec, 28% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2023 Red Blend is a jammy-red-fruited, creamy, vibrant wine with loads of youthful tension. It’s generously aromatic and boisterously flavorful, churning out raspberry jam, iron, iodine, rosewater and sweet lavender, but the structure is taut, tense and slightly nervous. Fresh mentholated tones lift the finish. The 2023 needs lots of time.

I tasted the 2023 Bordeaux Red Blend, composed of 36% Malbec, 28% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, in October, shortly after its August bottling. Grapes were harvested from October 5 through November 3, and the wine matured for 18 months in 50% new French oak barrels plus 5% concrete—a new aging vessel Aperture is beginning to experiment with. It has alluring aromas of cassis, blueberry preserves, incense, chocolate, iron, thyme and violet. The full-bodied palate is seamless and luxe with pure yet youthfully coiled flavors. It’s framed by velvety tannins and refreshing acidity and has a long, floral finish. It should be long lived in the cellar.
