Tasting notes
The 2017 VdP de l'Ardeche Les Iles Feray Syrah easily mixes herbal overtones with blueberries and olives. It's medium to full-bodied, maybe not quite as fleshy or silky as the 2018 but vibrant and delicious. It even adds hints of licorice on the mouthwatering finish.

Saturated ruby. Expressive blackberry, exotic spice, peony and smoky mineral scents show very sharp delineation and pick up a hint of olive with air. Sappy, spice-laced dark berry and bitter cherry flavors display very good depth and a complementary hint of candied flowers that emerges on the back half. Broad and pliant in style, finishing with strong, floral- and spice-dominated persistence and rounded tannins that contribute gentle grip.
100% Syrah. Declassified St-Joseph. 40% whole bunch. Excellent fragrance and lift on the nose – pure Syrah: violet, herbs and a sappy stem note. The palate is a bit lighter in fruit than most 2017s but that is a positive benefit! (RH)
Loganberries and raspberries with red plums, pepper, spice and dark, stony minerals. The palate has a deep-set, fleshy core of rich plums and plenty of tannins. Dark chocolate and black cherries to finish. Plenty to offer here. Drink or hold.
