Score 90/100 · Drink 2014-2025, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jun 2014

The 2012 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavaillon offers a vibrant hazelnut and sous-bois-scented bouquet that is well-defined and contains good vigor. The palate is crisp on the entry with hints of apricot and citrus peel, showing just a touch more weight and breadth on the finish vis-a-vis the Perrieres. Drink now-2025. Having reviewed brother Alain Chavy’s wines earlier this year, it is only correct that I pay attention to his brother’s. Both domaines were formed in 2003, when their father divided the holdings of Domaine Gerard Chavy et Fils. Jean-Louis’s parcels total 6.9 hectares that are cultivated lutte raisonee, fermented naturally and matured in oak for 15-18 months. Like Alain’s wines, these are well worth seeking out although at present, I was unable to locate a U.S. distributor. No known US importer.
