Tasting notes
Shimmering ruby-red. Vibrant red berry, cherry and floral pastille scents are complemented by a spicy hint of white pepper. Lively and appealingly sweet, offering intense, sharply defined Chambord and cherry flavors and a touch of candied lavender. Shows outstanding energy and finishes very long and spicy, with repeating florality and fine-grained tannins adding gentle grip. Aged for 18 months in neutral French oak puncheons.

Made entirely of Grenache, the medium to deep ruby-purple colored 2018 Grenache York Mountain grows in sandstone and was aged 18 months in neutral oak. The nose is singular and spicy, with addicting, layered aromas of earth, spices, meats and tricolored fruits, more nuances and layers coming through with time in the glass. The palate is full-bodied, firm, ripe and super fresh, with full fruit character corseted by an elegant frame, and it finishes long and expansive. Wow! 289 cases produced.
Coming from new plantings on York Mountain, the 2018 Grenache York Mountain showed beautifully, with a complex, nuanced style in its ripe blue fruits, herbes de Provence, pepper, and violet aromas and flavors. It packs plenty of richness yet offers a more medium to full-bodied, elegant, silky texture, light tannins, and a great finish. Drink this Châteauneuf du Pape look-alike any time over the coming 7-8 years or more.
Jumping into the reds, the 2018 Grenache comes from the Barossa Valley and is a made as a one-off, with the proceeds going all to charity. It offers a perfumed, complex style with hints of stems in its blue and passion fruits, violets, and peppery herbs. It’s an elegant, seductive Grenache to enjoy over the coming decade.
