Deep ruby-purple in color, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III opens with lovely blackcurrant and blue fruit character with notions of pencil shavings, star anise, violets and cigars, gaining more nuance as it sits in the glass. The full-bodied palate is surprisingly fresh, grainy and uplifted, with ripe, finely accented fruits and a long, understated finish. This is lovely and will benefit from another few years in bottle. 400 cases were made.

Another stunning wine from this team, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard is every bit as profound as the 2016 and is an incredible achievement in 2017. Deep purple/plum-hued, with a gorgeous bouquet of crème de cassis, smoked tobacco, chocolate, and damp earth, it's medium to full-bodied, has ripe, polished tannins, terrific overall balance, and a great finish. Drink it any time over the coming two decades.
