Tasting notes
The Grattamacco 2022 L'Alberello is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc. It shows a ripe, generous profile with sweet fruit flavors of cooked cherry and blackcurrant. Medium- to full-bodied, the wine offers a creamy lactic note on the finish, adding roundness to its otherwise firm structure. Fermented in stainless steel and matured in French barrique, this vintage reflects the estate’s focus on alberello-trained vines. The 2022 vintage will be remembered for its strong tannic backbone, clearly felt in this wine. This is a release of 12,000 bottles.

The 2022 L'Alberello is from a single vineyard of Cabernet Franc and was raised in 50% new French oak (only Taransaud) for 18 months, but it really incorporates it well. The wine pours a youthful red/magenta hue, while the nose opens to gorgeous aromas of blackcurrants, pine sap, crushed Mediterranean herbs, and pressed flowers. Full-bodied, it fills the palate with more noble structured tannins, though never drying, with its more gravelly earth notes lasting long on the palate. It demands time in bottle before enjoying over the coming three decades. Hide a few bottles of this away. Drink 2027-2050.
About the producer

Grattamacco’s story begins when Piermario Meletti Cavallari purchased an abandoned vineyard in 1977 and grafted over many of the vines. He produced one of the earliest Super Tuscans in 1982 – a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese and a wine which continues to earn acclaim today.
