Inky ruby. Deeply perfumed, expansive aromas of cherry preserves, cassis, incense, exotic spices, olive and vanilla, plus a smoky mineral nuance that gains strength as the wine opens up. Offers palate-staining black and blue fruit, licorice, cola, vanilla and allspice flavors that show superb depth as well as unlikely energy. Finishes extremely long and focused, with building floral and spice nuances, solid tannic grip and resonating mineral and spice notes. Raised in new oak barrels.

Brought up all in new oak, the 2019 Hermitage Cuvée Emilie reveals a dense purple color as well as pure cassis and blackberry fruits, notes of scorched earth, graphite, crushed stone, and burning embers, full body, ripe, building tannins, and a great finish. It needs 4-5 years to integrate its oak, but this is a gorgeous Hermitage from this family run estate that should have 25+ years of overall longevity.

The 2019 Hermitage Cuvee Emilie is a spice-laden beast of a wine. Basically black in the glass, it boasts soaring aromas of licorice, baking spices, cassis and black olives. Sourced largely from les Grandes Vignes and aged in 100% new French oak, it's full-bodied and broad-shouldered, yet supple, with ripe tannins oozing thickly across the palate and through the long, tactile finish. Give it five years to learn some table manners, then drink it over the next decade or so.

100% Syrah. Aged in new barrels for 15 months. Barrel sample. Tasted blind. Rich nose with liquorice and sweet tobacco notes. Nice sense of freshness with a good core of acidity and finely tuned tannins. Very sweet and ripe fruit with leather and liquorice. Long, rich and opulent style. (AC)
