The 2013 Corton les Renardes Grand Cru has a much more satisfying bouquet than the perplexing Charmes-Chambertin with a daring touch of peppermint tincturing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berries laced with orange peel and iodine. There is a keen line of acidity with a structured, earthy finish that completes what is one of Thibault's most satisfying 2013s.

(Liger-Belair destems this wine entirely, as it's planted on calcaire ): Good deep red. Stony aromas currently overshadow wild red fruits on the reduced nose. Shows good richness but comes across as tight and unforthcoming today, even a bit dried by CO2. The long finish is surprisingly supple, though, leaving behind stone and saline notes. In an awkward stage but there's plenty of material here.

The 2013 Corton Grand Cru Les Renardes was 100% destemmed. It has a distant bouquet at first that seems quite timid, but affording it 10-15 minutes in the glass it opens beautifully with pure and precise red cherries, crushed strawberry and mineral notes. The palate is quite spicy on the entry with crisp tannins, a little pinched at the moment, but with a very elegant finish. This cerebral Corton-Renards is one of Thibault’s favorite wines of the vintage and it is also one of mine. Alas, there are but just three barrels made.
