The 2023 Chardonnay Zephyr is laced with dried pear, chamomile, crushed flowers, mint, dried leaves, spice and tangerine peel. This is an especially savory, nuanced Chardonnay with a lot of earthy character. Fruit is pushed into the background.

A bright yellow/silver color, the 2023 Chardonnay Zephyr is from a cool climate site in Freestone above the valley, planted to the Mt. Eden clone. The palate has an elegant mouthfeel along with lovely notes of lime cordial and salty earth. It has a wild, savory feel, with its toasted spices coming through on the finish. It’s one of my favorite wines I’ve ever tasted from Ceritas. It feels so complete, with purity and fantastic length, as well as underlying density and ripeness, within a medium-bodied frame. Drink 2026-2040.

Created in 2005 by John Raytek, Ceritas is one of California’s most exciting producers. The project is focused on making single-site wines from Northern California’s coastal regions, largely Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
